Homeschool Organization Made Simple With These 8 Tips

Hey there! Who doesn’t love a more organized space? I know I do! Are you looking for homeschool organization made simple? With these 8 tips you will be on your way to a homeschool space that feels organized and efficient.

homeschool room

A messy space = a messy mind.

When it comes to homeschool, it brings a lot of stuff into our home. We’re talking curriculum, books, supplies, charts, maps, more books, you get the picture.

If you homeschool and are feeling overwhelmed by your space, don’t let the fear of organizing keep you in a cluttered state of mind.

I am frugal at heart so these tips are incredibly affordable while being practical and easy to implement. #3 is my favorite of the bunch!

This day and age will tell you you need the best of the best and the most aesthetically pleasing homeschool room. As if the visual look of your homeschool room will bring success on your journey, spoiler alert, it will not.

The most important item you have in your homeschool room will be you.

Your time, dedication, and attention will be the most important part of homeschool life and what your kids will remember. Not the rows of clear containers with neatly printed labels (I am talking to myself here too).

Thats not to say beautifying your space is wrong. I love a pretty and organized area along with the rest of them.

I am just here to tell you it’s not the most important and doesn’t have to cost a fortune!

Let’s make organizing your homeschool space simple!

8 simple and affordable tips to help keep your homeschool room organized:

Storage area

Now this one is listed first and is essentially the most important, as you need somewhere designated to put all that stuff.

We homeschool at our dining table in what you would call our formal dining room. I knew I needed something to contain all our homeschool supplies.

I found this small hutch for $10 at a thrift store and re-purposed it!

Maybe this storage item for you is an older dresser, book shelf, cubbies, a closet. Whatever makes sense for your space, find something that can hold most if not all of your homeschool supplies.

You will then use other means of organizing to keep this space neat and efficient.

If you are in need of a designated storage area, try Facebook market place or thrift stores for gently used furniture! You will find some gems if patient enough.

Baskets

Moving right into our next on the list, baskets! These can be super cute or super practical!

I love a good wicker basket to match the rest of my home décor. But I also have plenty of plastic and metal ones too. Dollar Tree is my favorite place to find all sizes of plastic bins.

I have two wicker baskets, one medium sized that holds all our additional curriculum, white boards, extra worksheets, and folders with completed work.

The other basket was a $5 thrift find that has sections to it and is our primary school basket with our daily lessons, pencils, and everyday stuff. This one is a very similar style!

homeschool supplies

If you are using a dresser or something with drawers, find baskets that will easily set on top or that are shallow enough to fit into the drawers.

I have baskets in my hutch drawers that contain craft supplies, extra pencils, and lots of my favorite item which is next!

Zipper storage bags

I love these things! I have them in my car, purse, diaper bag, game cabinet, homeschool area, you name it!

See, I told you I love them!

They are by far my favorite way of organizing, especially smaller pieces like paper clips, game pieces, popsicle sticks, etc.

To keep things streamlined, I place any loose items in these bags. I remove items from larger packaging to place in the bags.

For example, I took out the pieces of board games and placed them in these bags to condense space in drawers.

Our crayons, colored pencils, and flash cards are in them as well to keep them nice and contained, and not all over my floor. (thank you toddlers)

The bigger pouches are even great for extra paper or clear protective sheets, to keep them from playing slip and slide in your drawers!

The cost for value on these bags is incredible, in case you haven’t noticed, I highly recommend them! Thank me later 😉

Organizer caddy

Another tip for homeschool organizing made simple are organizer caddies.

These make prepping for school time quick and easy. I have them tucked away in my hutch drawers and easily pull them out when needed and have whatever supplies ready to go in a flash.

organized homeschool supplies

Perfect for storing extra colored pencils, erasers, and random craft items like glue sticks, etc.

They help keep the drawers nice and neat and you can’t beat the time it takes to get out supplies when you need to!

Head to Dollar Tree, Walmart, or Target dollar spot to find these guys for under $5!

This version is super useful too and can easily be left on the table in your homeschool space if you don’t have toddlers that crawl onto your table and make messes, like I do.

Cups

This one may sound funny but cups are extremely affordable. In fact I’ll bet you have many in your cupboard right now, making them free 😉

I have a few .50 cent Walmart cups that hold highlighters and markers that I use up on one of the hutch shelves.

Simply put, cups are a cheap way to store supplies without breaking the bank!

You can even use cute coffee mugs as pencil holders, a great way to get a stylish look in a budget-friendly way!

Folders

Another pocket-friendly tip that keeps homeschool organizing made simple!

Did you have an obsession with Lisa Frank folders back in the day? Just me? Ok, cool.

Folders are still a great way to keep your papers organized by subject, time, to-do, etc!

I have an accordion folder that is filled with worksheets to pull from for various subjects.

I then have classic folders to place finished work.

Personal needs like bills, taxes, receipts are also easily organized in folders.

Folders can be found just about everywhere, but per usual I recommend Dollar Tree or Walmart.

Here’s an online option with super cute prints.

Drawer Organizers

I love using plastic bins as drawer organizers, and you guessed it, Dollar Tree is my go-to to find these!

I not only use them in my homeschool space but also my kitchen, bathroom, etc. Wherever I want some organization in a drawer!

basket

This keeps items from being thrown in randomly, or from rolling all over the place. I’m talking to you batteries.

If something has a designated spot in a drawer basket, that is where it goes back to!

Paper Tray

Find a tray that can fit into the drawer if using a dresser or hutch. Use for printer paper, construction paper, coloring books, extra work sheets, you name it!

For multiple students, try these stackable paper trays to help keep all their work organized and in one place. Keep on the shelf where it’s easily accessible to the students.

These 8 tips will surely make homeschool organizing simple!
