DIY All-Purpose Cleaner Made From 3 Household Ingredients
Easy to make non-toxic all-natural cleaner for less than $5

Hey there! Are you on the hunt for an easy-to-make DIY non-toxic all-purpose cleaner?
Or maybe you are curious about what that entails but are overwhelmed by the overload of information on non-toxic living.
The Why
The pressure to have a house full of non-toxic products can be daunting, especially with the constant advertising of “natural-cleaner” or “eco-friendly” products.
Greenwashing is unfortunately prevalent in retail, making it difficult to trust “green” products for both their authenticity and ingredients.
This article on greenwashing makes it clear why making your own all-natural cleaning products is as important as ever! What Is Greenwashing? How It Works, Examples, and Statistics
I am here to tell you it is not complicated to begin the journey towards a toxin-free home. This all-natural non-toxic cleaner is a great first step on that journey.
Not to mention this non-toxic cleaner is super cheap to make!
I have been on a journey towards a toxin-free home for approximately 8 years now. It all began with the products I used to clean my home.
I started experiencing headaches whenever I was around artificial fragrances, and this was the key factor that led me to switch to non-toxic products for our home.
After learning about how chemicals in products we use can affect us internally, and the physical reaction I experienced, I have never gone back.

Here is a very in-depth study on synthetic fragrances if you are up for some reading: Do Synthetic Fragrances in Personal Care and Household Products Impact Indoor Air Quality and Pose Health Risks?
So I said farewell to my Bath & Body Works candles and beloved foaming hand soap, as well as lemon-scented Clorox wipes and yummy-smelling dish soap.
Below are the simple steps to making this 100% natural all-purpose cleaner that you can trust to use all around your homes and kids.
Bonus points – you probably have all the ingredients to make it today!

The How
Items you need:
- 16 oz mason jar (any glass jar with a lid could work)
- The peel of one orange (or more if you’d like a more concentrated cleaner, you can also try lemon peels)
- White Distilled Vinegar
- Water
- Spray bottle
Ready for the easy part?
Steps to take:
- Peel an orange
- Place the peel in the mason jar
- Pour in enough vinegar to cover the peels
- Cover with air tight lid
- Place on the counter for up to two weeks
Letting the vinegar and citrus mixture sit for two weeks allows for an effective cleaning solution.
- After two weeks, strain the vinegar into a glass spray bottle using a fine mesh strainer and funnel.
- Fill the rest of the spray bottle with water and replace the nozzle.
If you want an added scent boost I recommend a few drops of lemon or orange essential oil!
That’s it, easy as 1,2,3!

Products you will need to store the all-purpose cleaner
A glass spray bottle is the perfect container for your homemade cleaner! It’s all I use all around my house. I love the bottles with a silicone base to keep them protected from breaking (hello little children). They also add a stylish element and who doesn’t want to feel cute while cleaning? Ha!
I use these mason jars and these mason jar lids for storing almost everything in my kitchen. From my homemade Mayonnaise, homemade jam, pickling vegetables, excess sauce from cans, overnight oats, you name it!
They work well for creating this cleaner and storing all kinds of products – I highly recommend them!
