Must-Have First Grade Extras for Homeschool Families: Fun & Engaging Ways to Enrich Learning
Hey friend! We are finishing up our first grade school year here at our home sweet homeschool. I wanted to share with you some must-have first grade extras we’ve used throughout the year that added an enriching and engaging element that both my student and I enjoyed.
These are non-essential extras to enhance learning at home. For a simple and budget-friendly list of supplies, check out this post here!
Math extras
Linking cubes – these are perfect for teaching simple addition, subtraction, and number placement. Plus the kids just like to play with them. Littles can also use these to count, sort, and identify shapes!
Time Activity Set – we loved using this clock set for introduction to time telling. You can use the clock simply, or build up to a more advanced time telling lesson with the matching cards.
Multiplication Pop it – a unique and non-boring way to practice multiplication!
Social Studies
LeapFrog Magic Adventures Globe – this is a fantastic learning add-on to enhance at home lessons. A great tool for history, geography, and learning other cultures.
The 50 States Book – We have loved using this book to learn more about the 50 states. The pages are large, beautifully designed, and full of great information!
Language Arts
Word Spelling Block Game – great way to encourage spelling skills in a game format.
Learning Sentence Structure Flip Stand – Easy to use educational tool to teach sentence structure and creativity.
Bible
Bible Recap for Kids – I read the bible in a year using the Bible Recap and was so happy to find the kids’ version to walk through with my student. Use your own discretion for what to read and walk through per your own family’s comfort levels. We do a page per school day.
God’s Names – This was a fabulous resource for learning more of the Names of God! My student was easily engaged in the stories and surprised me with memorizing the names of God early on! Great for ages 4-10.
Sensory Extras
These are not so much educational but great for sensory play and creativity! Great options for long car rides and flights as well.
Sensory Activity Board – Great fidget toy for travel days and screen-free time
Wikki Stix Activity Book – great preschool age activity book
Matching Memory Wooden Board Game – memory building game and hours of fun for ages 4-8! Also great for travel days.
I hope you find something useful with these. Let me know your favorite first grade extras for at-home learning!
